SSHL Director Margret Benedikz will be in Singapore this week

SSHL Director Margret Benedikz will be in Singapore this week, in conjunction with the IB World Heads Conference, to meet with the Scandinavian community. She will be holding a lecture on Bilingualism & Swedish Education, hosted by the Norwegian Church Mission (Sjømannskirken).

“I visited Singapore last year and there was a lot of interest in the topic of bilingualism,” says Margret.

“So many families working in international communities like Singapore speak one language at home and then study or work in English. Parents are concerned about what this will mean for their children in real terms, say, if they want to come back to Sweden and study when they are used to studying in English.”

With many decades experience living and working in a multilingual environment, Margret will be talking about the challenges students and parents face, as well as providing useful advice on thriving in a multilingual learning environment.

For parents who’ve not educated their children in Sweden and are actually nowadays more familiar with what’s offer abroad, Margret will also be addressing the issue of how programmes like the IB fit into the Swedish education system, and what it means for university studies.

Margret’s lecture is open to everyone and she’ll be speaking at both 1 PM and 5 PM. For those coming at 1 PM, lunch is available from 12.
