Mentorship Programme on study visit to Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The students on the Mentorship Programme went on a field trip to Stockholm this week for a visit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Utrikesdepartementet, UD).

The visit to UD was made possible by Lennart Linnér, a former student from SHL who has a life long career as an ambassador and diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over 40 years. Lennart is one of our mentors, and this year he is supervising his fifth student on the Mentorship Programme at SSHL.

The group of mentees was welcomed by Lennart and two of his colleagues, Ingrid Tersman and Ulf Samuelsson, in the beautiful historic building where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located, near Gustav Adolfs Torg in central Stockholm. That alone was an experience in itself.

Here they gathered in the large reception hall to take part in a very informative presentation about the ministry and the work as a diplomat.

The students asked many intelligent questions and showed great interest. Among other things, they learned how you apply for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ training program, what is required in terms of education and experience, and what the role of a diplomat entails.

We learned that good qualities to have as a diplomat are integrity, good judgment, and the ability to cooperate – together with the desire to work in the service of the nation.

During the year, the mentees gather for lectures, workshops, and study visits, together with meetings and contacts between mentor and mentee. We are very grateful that we were given this unique opportunity to visit the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs this year!

Our students have the opportunity to participate in the much appreciated Mentorship Programme at SSHL.

The Sigtuna Alumni Association has been running the Mentorship Programme at SSHL in close collaboration with the school for several years

The purpose of the programme is to strengthen the links between school, business and working life, and to show students what opportunities can be found in higher education and in working life. By offering the student the opportunity to share the mentors’ personal experiences, a generational cross-learning and expanded network are created for all participants.

The goal is for SSHL to provide even more than a fantastic education but also a door to our own network during your time at the school. The possibility of mentorship, with all that that entails, is another good reason to choose SSHL.
