The rowing team excelled in the first SIPSI meeting of the year
This Monday, the SIPSI 2024/25 competitions started according to tradition at Lundsberg, where the schools competed in skeet shooting, rowing, basketball and golf.
38 eager SSHL students left the school in the early morning to arrive in time to Lundsberg, deep in the forests of Värmland. After three hours on the road, it was nice to get out of the bus as all teams quickly made their way to their different stations to prepare for the competitions to start.
First out was skeet shooting, where our students made a good effort, especially considering that several of the members have just started in the team. Our students came in second place after Lundsberg.
– We had a traditional clay pigeon competition of 30 pigeons, says the team’s coach Jakob Bosson. Everyone did really well, but unfortunately it was not enough for a victory. But we should be proud of an honorable second place.
The basketball matches went on all day, and ended with an exciting final where SSHL unfortunately did not get to play.
A tribute to our basketball girls and basketball boys though who fought well and made a strong effort. Well done!
The rowing competitions started at lunchtime and after all eight heats were completed, SSHL had won four heats – a really great result! It was a long time since we had such a strong rowing team, and it was fun to share first place with Lundsberg.
One of our students, Erik Ellefors (to the right in the picture below), has also just participated in the Swedish Rowing Championships where he was close to qualifying for the A-final, and came in second place in the B-final.
Our golfers started out in the misty morning at beautifully located Lundsbergs Golf Club, where they played 18 holes with bravura, despite the rain hanging in the air.
It was no win this time, but a nice and steady game that bodes well for the future.
What do the students think about SIPSI and the day at Lundsberg? Well, the highlight of the day was of course to compete. But they also find it really fun to see the other teams compete, and say that SIPSI is important to create cohesion, variation and excitement in everyday life at school.
Dante Forsman, boarding student at House Backa, competed as 2nd rower in the 4-boys heat:
– In addition to the fact that it is fun to compete, SIPSI gives the opportunity to meet new people and see what other schools in Sweden are like. My opinion is that people are motivated to train hard to represent their schools in sports. SIPSI is a nice tradition that we really appreciate and that brings the schools closer together.
The interest in the different competition disciplines varies among the students from year to year. And some students train diligently throughout their time at the school, others participate more sporadically. What characterizes SIPSI is that there is something for everyone, and everyone can participate in something. The competitions are an extra incentive for our students to exercise diligently during the semesters.
Thank you Lundsberg and well done, all students! We are now looking forward to next SIPSI meet, which is soccer and tennis in Stockholm, hosted by Viktor Rydberg!
SIPSI stands for Swedish Boarding- and Private Schools Sports Organisation. The SIPSI schools are: Enskilda Gymnasiet, Lundsbergs Skola, Viktor Rydberg Djursholm and SSHL.
