Personal themes in this year’s IB Visual Art Exhibition
The 2023 version of the ‘IB Visual Art Exhibition’ is now on display at the school. As usual we can find an impressive creativity evoking both reflections and emotions.
Please see photo album of the exhibition below.
A multitude of personal themes are represented in this year’s exhibition. Some shed light on the state of the world and global issues, while others are based on personal experiences. One example of the latter is Anh Pham vu Hoang’s exhibition which deals with the question how the artistic process could be described in a visualised form.
Max Burkinshaw has been working on a theme experimenting with a long exposure time in photography. Water as a theme is shown in the works by Emelie Wåhlin and William Dahlgren has chosen the leitmotif ‘The sensation of isolation and loneliness’ for his exhibition. Joanna Gärdin has created some unique digital paintings and sculptures dealing with the pressure of society on the younger generation.
The increasing impact of digitalisation is clearly shown in the number of photos and digitally created works.
– The students learn to visualise, communicate and realise their ideas and thoughts and also to assume responsibility from an idea to a completed piece of work, says their art teacher, Ulrika Lindblom. They develop their skills to reflect and of course to produce pictures in various materials. It results in a personal development in a creative contact, she explains.
During this academic year eleven students have been working with Visual Art and have exhibited their works. Ten of these are currently on display on the second floor of Instan. One student’s exhibition can be seen in virtual reality.
The exhibition is part of the IB/DP students’ final exam work in Visual Art. The students have themselves chosen their intention and idea to explore, in optional media.
All the students also write a statement about their art collection and a process portfolio, where they describe their work process in a lot of various materials, together with research on other artists. This is done digitally and is sent to the IB examiner for grading.
