Dekaden 2024 – visitor record and exciting rowing competition

Thank you all alumni, who returned to SSHL this past weekend to reunite with classmates, teachers and house parents!

Last Saturday we celebrated ‘Dekaden’ 2024 – an alumni gathering that attracted over 330 former students to visit Sigtuna and SSHL. More visitors than ever before. This year, graduating students from 1954 and every five years until 2019 were invited. Our oldest guest was 90 years old!

The day started off in bright sunny weather with a meet and greet down by the lake. Our CEO/School Director Ms Sofia Kinberg held a welcome speech, together with  representatives from the Alumni Association, Ms Caroline Lindahl, Chair and Ms Jeanette van Reis, Vice Chair (Föreningen Sigtunafördettingar).

Out on Lake Mälaren, the current 2024 student rowing team competed against the 2019 alumni rowing team. It was an exciting race, with Mr Stefan Eriksson, teacher, as speaker. Congratulations to 2024 students, winners of the race and now current holders of the trophy!

The program continued with a tour of campus to allow all former boarding students the opportunity to revisit their old houses, talk to current students, have fika and happy reunions with the boarding staff.

Our guests gathered for a traditional korum on the Midgården stairs to sing the school songs. An inspirational speech filled with memories and anecdotes was held by Carl Johan Merner, graduate of 1994, Sandvreten.

The school shop was open and many alumni took the opportunity to purchase something as a memory from the day. Some stopped by Humlan to sit and talk for a while in this cosy and beautiful school café.

The day ended with a fantastic three-course dinner, prepared by the school’s own kitchen. The alumni gathered by order of class at long tables. Students from SSHL Music Association made a fantastic performance on stage.

Dekaden is a long honoured tradition and a great way to maintain contact and network with former schoolmates. We are so happy to host this party for our alumni, together with the Alumni Association.
